Why is my cat blocked?
A cat is blocked when any square belonging to another cat lies directly in front of its head on the way to the board edge. Check that complete straight line, even when the nearest square looks empty.

What the game checks
The check begins one square ahead of the head and continues in its fixed direction to the edge. Another cat's head, straight body segment, corner or tail can all block that line. The blocker does not need to be adjacent. A cat three squares away still matters if it occupies the same forward row or column.
The moving cat's own body is excluded from this check. The game also does not require empty squares on both sides of the cat's whole shape. It checks the line ahead of the head, then animates the departure along the body's path. Looking for a wide corridor around the entire long cat can make a legal move seem impossible.
A gap behind the tail is irrelevant if the head points the other way. Likewise, a body corner does not create a new turn you can choose. You cannot rotate the cat or drag it into an empty side square.
A quick checklist before another tap
- Locate the head. Read its facing direction, rather than the direction of a tail or stripe.
- Trace to the edge. Inspect every square on the forward line, not only the neighboring square.
- Identify the other cat. Follow the blocking segment back to its head.
- Check that cat's exit. If it is also blocked, continue following the chain until you find a free one.
- Remove a free cat, then recheck. One removal can help several cats, but an additional blocker may still remain.
For example, a right-facing cat can be blocked by the tail of a downward-facing cat farther to its right. Removing the downward-facing cat clears that obstacle. It does not change the first cat's direction or guarantee that the rest of its row is empty.
Recognize an actual blocked move
After a blocked tap, the cat stays on the board, the message reads Blocked! Free the path first, and one heart is lost. Tapping that cat repeatedly will not push the obstacle away. After the short feedback finishes, inspect a different exit before trying again.
The third blocked tap ends the attempt. Choose Try again for a fresh board with three hearts. If a perfect result is your goal, the star guide explains how mistakes, hints and restarts affect the rating.
When a tap does not mean “blocked”
A tap can be ignored without costing a heart while the board is loading, a dialog is open, a result is being shown, or the short blocked feedback is still running. Clicking an empty square also does not select a cat. Look at the hearts and message before treating every unresponsive tap as a collision.
If the loading message says the cats could not load, use its retry control. Repeatedly tapping the covered board cannot repair a missing level file or image. For persistent loading trouble, follow troubleshooting and check your save status before refreshing or clearing any site data.
A cat that has successfully left is removed from the active puzzle as its departure begins. It may still be visible briefly as an animation. That departing image no longer blocks another cat; check the cats that remain on the board.
Short exits and reduced motion
With reduced motion active, departures are deliberately brief and fade as they finish. They can look much closer to disappearing than the normal sliding movement. This does not change which cats can leave, charge a heart or indicate a different type of puzzle piece.
Open Progress & settings to inspect Reduce motion. The game also respects the device's reduced-motion preference. For a successful move, the escaped-cat counter increases; for a blocked one, the cat remains and a heart is lost. Those state changes are more useful than animation length when diagnosing what happened.
Use Hint to reveal a currently legal exit, or open Keyboard play for each remaining cat's breed, number and direction. Its screen-reader labels also include the head's row and column. Then continue with the strategy guide, revisit the controls, or return to the wiki.
